Dr. Seuss Recap

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

I was out on Wednesday and Thursday this week, so admittedly, I was not feeling too prepared for our seussical day o' fun. But, my fear wasn't going to stop me from celebrating my favorite day of the school year {minus the last day, of course!} In the end, I'm not sure who had more fun on Friday, me or my firsties?

We started the day on the right "foot" by breaking one very serious rule. We took our shoes off {GASP!} for our ENTIRE reading block in honor of our dearest friend, Fox in Socks.

Talk about the giggles! These kiddos had all kinds of silly in them!

After the giggles settled, we got down to very serious business.
I had the students practice their debate skills. They broke into pairs and had to prove why their favorite Dr. Seuss book is better than the other. Such a great teachable moment for the language of persuasion! I was impressed at how well they did!

Then we read the Cat in The Hat as a class and did this little writing extension from my previous post.

Check out this little guy's response... doesn't that just melt your heart?!? Six year olds can be so darn sweet when they want to.

In honor of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish we had a blast during math! We were busy graphing, patterning and sorting these little guys {Thank you Publix BOGO}. Unfortunately, I forgot to grab my camera! I was so busy herding overly excited children having loads of fun.
We also enjoyed our own version of Cara's "Seuss Juice" from the First Grade Parade. Although, instead of doing the colored ice cubes, we mixed red fruit punch and blue fruit punch and watched the "magical" juice change to purple. Of course, it HAD to be drank with a bendy straw! There's just no other way to enjoy Seuss Juice!
We ended the day with a nice little sugar high. It was a birthday celebration after all. What kind of birthday party doesn't include a cupcake or two, right?

.......
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”    ~Dr. Seuss
Almost every girl in my class is posing! Check out the little one in purple on the right!! This cracks me right up. I seriously love these kids!

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.” ~Dr.Seuss

How did you celebrate?
